Most likely, there are very few people who would not agree that external beauty is not just anatomically correct facial features and a proportional figure. This is also clean skin. That is why washing products, “skatkas”, scrubs and peelings are among the most popular cosmetic products. However, when it comes to scrubbing and peeling, unfortunately, many consumers simply do not distinguish between them, reducing everything to their main purpose – exfoliation of keratinized skin particles. And there is a difference, and the result of care depends on it. Therefore, today we decided to discuss what scrubs and peelings are, what is the difference between scrubs and peelings, how to use peelings and scrubs, and why exfoliation is needed in principle.
Why is the exfoliation procedure necessary?
Our skin breathes, age-related changes occur in it, it is regularly renewed. All this is accompanied by cell death.
Exfoliation is an additional step of cleaning the skin from dead (keratinized) cells. It is important at any age. Because it depends on the regularity and quality of renewal of the upper layer of the skin:
is it ready for further care — how will the skin absorb assets from the cosmetics applied in the following stages;
how well it is saturated with oxygen;
what will be its condition — color, pore width, peeling, etc.;
to what extent active regeneration processes will be possible, etc.
At the same time, the value of exfoliation increases proportionally with the stage of life after 30 years you have already passed. For example, if up to the age of 30 cells are renewed normally about once a month, then after that it happens less often – once every six months or less. In addition to age, factors such as:
genetic predisposition
climate = weather conditions,
functioning of sebaceous glands,
the presence of dermatological problems (acne, psoriasis, etc.).
What is a scrub?
A scrub is a tool that mechanically exfoliates keratinized skin particles. It contains abrasive elements that help remove dead cells along with other impurities.
Usually, high-quality cosmetics use abrasives of natural origin – sugar and sea salt crystals, pearl powder, ground nut shells, berry and fruit stones, coffee, etc. At the same time, the scrub can contain clay, natural extracts and oils, cream-forming and gel-forming base, etc.
In addition, the scrub:
must be selected for the type of skin,
do not use for inflamed skin, in particular for acne breakouts.
What is peeling
Peeling is a product that not only cleanses the skin of keratinized skin particles and other impurities, but also works with the aging process – smoothes facial and age wrinkles, removes age spots, evens out skin color and texture, and reduces pores. And he does it not thanks to the abrasive. Peeling may include such exfoliants as hydroxy acids (α-, β-, polyhydroxy acids), trichloroacetic acid, phenol (very rarely), enzymes, calcium carbonate, enzymes, etc. Each peeling agent penetrates to its depth and interacts with the skin differently (in particular, it causes different degrees of irritation).
