If your hair is often electrified, do not be upset. You are not alone in your problem. Dry, brittle or damaged hair very often suffers from static electricity, but why does hair become electrified, what to do if hair becomes electrified and how to get rid of electrified hair once and for all? The reason for electrified hair lies not only in headdresses and, contrary to some opinions, is relevant at any time of the year. Unless, of course, you like your hair to crackle like wood in a fireplace. Therefore, today we will talk about how to get rid of hairs that stick out, stick to the comb and shock.
The main reasons why hair is electrified
Hair becomes “on end” due to the formation of static electricity on its surface. But it has many “sources”, so the reasons for electrification of hair cannot be reduced to banal friction of one surface against another, as it was often explained to us in childhood.
Undoubtedly, static electricity most often occurs when we:
comb the hair (especially with the wrong comb),
wear headgear that touches the hair.
Such friction provokes a redistribution of electrons, in which one object receives a positive charge, and the other – a negative one. Oppositely charged objects attract, which explains why hair is drawn to a comb or other objects. And equally charged — repel each other, which, in turn, explains the effect of naughty hair flying in different directions and sticking out.
At the same time, the hair is also electrified under the influence of other external and internal factors. That is, hair can become electrified in the event of:
temperature changes,
prolonged stay in the cold,
drying hair with a hair dryer on hot mode,
excessive dryness of the surrounding air (especially indoors),
hair dehydration,
poor hair condition (especially severe damage),
using too hot water when washing your hair,
hair rubbing against synthetic clothing (not only hats),
deficiency of vitamins and trace elements in the body,
insufficient fluid intake and body dehydration,
use of improperly selected and low-quality hair cosmetics (especially styling products).
What to do so that the hair does not become electrified
If your hair becomes electrified, the first thing you need to do is identify the possible causes of your hair becoming electrified and try to eliminate them. Most often, preventing hair electrification (even in cases where the reason is seasonal wearing of hats) helps:
moisturizing hair,
maintaining a sufficient level of humidity in the room,
using room temperature water for washing hair,
proper hair drying without hot air and hair rubbing (experts also advise using hair dryers with ionization),
using towels made of natural materials,
trimming dry, thinned and damaged hair ends,
choosing and purchasing a comb for your hair type,
maintaining combing hygiene – the comb must always be clean,
proper diet and sufficient intake of vitamins and minerals (especially in the form of vitamin-mineral complexes),
wearing headgear and clothes made of natural materials,
using the right products for hair care and styling (in particular, it will not be superfluous to add protection from the sun, salty, chlorinated and polluted water to the daily routine).
